LIFE OF THE MASTER WEAVER

          Fu Yabing Dulo was one of two surviving master designers left of the mabal tabih art of ikat weaving. She was noted for her textile weaving, and she was one of the two master designers of the B'laan tribe's mabal. Her style was Blaan traditional mabal tabih weaving and dyeing.

Manlilikha ng Bayan” Fu Yabing Masalon Dulo, the Blaan master weaver and ikat dyer is known for promoting Philippine textiles, She died in midnight of January 26, 2021. According to her niece Josephine “Arjho” Cariño-Turner, Dulo died past midnight today, January 26. “Her only and younger sister found her no longer breathing and went on at peace while she was asleep,” she said.

ABOUT BAI YABING

Bai Yabing was born in Polomolok, South Cotabato, on August 8, 1914. Mount Matutum was her home. At the age of 14, Fu Yabing began weaving. Her tube (handwoven colored alpaca) is considered marvels. The Philippine National Museum has one of them on display. Her art was also shown at the Wow Mindanao Tourism Expo in Davao in 2004 and the ASEAN Traditional Textiles Symposium at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2009.
